Naturally, safety is the most important thing when looking at potential baby travel cots. When looking for baby travel cots you need to make sure that they are compliant with the safety laws in your country.
These safety laws and regulations cover areas such as the distance between the bars of your cot so that baby’s heads do not get stuck. For below 6 month babies you can get something like baby lounger or baby carrier. But for a long travel the aren't good option. The walls need to be too high for the baby to climb out, this seems obvious but with toys sitting in the baby travel cots they can act as a step. Most new and modern baby travel cots are extremely safe and have no cause for concern but second hand cots need a better look over.
With second hand cots, you need to consider the make up materials. Make sure that if they are wooden that there are no splintering areas and that if it is painted, they need to be stripped, sanded and re painted with Lead free paint. Another good idea would be to thoroughly clean the travel cot. Second hand items may well have been stored in dudty places or indeed it may not have been cleaned since the last toddler was sick in it!!!
The last major area for safety is to look at the area that you place your baby travel cot. As we know, babies are susceptible to many things including heat and light. Cots should be placed away from direct sunlight radiators and other heaters. You need also to keep them away from windows as they can magnify the light and heat from the sun. Windows also have cords, pulls and tassels that are extremely attractive to toddlers to grab onto, put in their mouth and can be very dangerous if swallowed or if they get tangled around their necks. If a baby can grab and pull something, it will! The travel cot needs to be kept away from tables that are in reach, lamps and heavy objects that could fall.
When used correctly, baby travel cots are brilliant for parents. You can pitch them up in seconds and allow your child to rest and play safely. If you are looking for something cheap and easy to carry then you can get a baby hammock it can be alternative to cot. Look after your little ones!!!
